Transferring successfully from BBC Radio, Toytown was presented by the BBC Children's Puppet Theatre with Larry the Lamb, Dennis the Dog, Mr Growser, Mr. Mayor, P.C. Ernest and Mr. Witherspoon among others.

The plays were written by S.G Hulme Beaman. These very popular puppets were crudely fashioned from wood and operated by wires from below.
