CD REVIEW – Victor Herbert, Cello Concertos Nos. 1 & 2
Irish Ulster Orchestra conducted by JoAnn Falletta with Mark Kosower.
Naxos 8.573517

This excellent and tuneful CD will interest all who enjoy light music. The two concertos certainly pleased Dvorak who was in the USA at the time, and acted as an inspiration for his own later famous cello concerto. The Irish Rhapsody is also a jolly good romp, unsurprising when on considers Herbert’s huge musical output of both light and serious fare. Highly recommended.
